How does someone protect themselves from using the internet on their wireless devices? The first thing to think about is how to detect fake websites. When your on your wireless devices surfing the web you come across a Ebay websites which to you looks like their official site. The hacker tries to fool people in going to their disguised site by sending email messages by hoping that some users will not notice the incorrect URL. There is software out there to detect fake websites to protect yourself from identity theft. The first one is called SpoofStick it displays a new toolbar in your browser that shows you for example that you are in Ebay.ca. You can see if this is the fake ebay site by showing the actual IP address 423.46.507. The second software is Comodo Verification Engine can verify that the padlock is genuine and not a fraudulent graphic and that the site uses a secure socket layer certificate showing the correct information about the company where you are connected. The third is MCafee’s site advisor which puts a colour-coded software button in the internet explorier toolbar. Using this button tells you details about why the website is good or bad. It also detects pop-up advertisements, and tells you how much spam the website will generate if you give your email address.

You can surf the web anonymously means that you do not make you IP address or any personal identifiable information available to the websites that you are visiting. You can achieve this by the use of a proxy server which is a computer that is between your connection and the web. You remain anonymous because only the information on the proxy server is visible to outsiders. When you visit amazon.ca you enter the Amazon’s URL on the anonymouse website. Anonymouse is a proxy serves for you and Amazon sees only the information from Anonymouse.

The last think I will mention is Wireless Security. The main reason intruders connect to a no-secure Wireless Network is to gain access to the internet. They can look up your banking information if it is not secured plus all web sites you visited and look up your personal information.

People should use many precautions to protect themselves from the internet. Your personal information is very valuable to criminals and can be found easily through the ways we have discussed by surfing the internet. Therefore once you are aware you should protect yourselves by making the internet fun and safe.

I learned in this class is about how IT is very important in our society that chances the way we think, act and how technology is changing rapidly. I learned that you do not need to purchase any software or hardware you can just use the internet (google for example offers all that to you.) I learned a lot about cloud computing and e-commerce. This was a great class and I really enjoyed it.

In the IT world mobile computing and mobile commerce has changed the way people live their lives. The meaning of mobile computing is a real-time, wireless connection between a mobile services such as the internet or an intranet. Mobile commuting for wireless devices are for workers who travel outside their business firm or travel away from home. There is two characteristics of mobile computing. The first is mobility, which is when people carry wireless device can contact others as they are emailing or texting them. The second is broad reach when people carry wireless devices that they can be reached instantly. Today we do not need to use are home computers and wait to start it up and communicate with others and exchange information to friends or co-workers. We simply need your wireless devices that is in the palm of your hand that instately connects to the web. This amazing device breaks language barriers, geographic boundaries, and location and time does not matter. It is also a cheaper way of conducting business. people are changing the way they conduct their business by leaning towards mobile commerce.

Mobile commerce is electronic commerce transactions that are conducted in a wireless environment, especially via the internet. There are a huge amount of wireless devices around the world and are spreading quickly especially in China where a lot of business takes place. You need bandwidth which is the range of infrequences available in a communicators channel, stated in bits per second. They transmit text, voice, video music which WI-FI, WImax a 3G cellular technology gives you bandwidth.
Mobile commerce makes IT more convenent for customers to be able to do transactions for business no matter where they are or what time it is. Today mostly all banks give people access to online banking on your wireless devices to allow you to conduct financial transactions.
Customers use wirless electronic payment systems to purchase product services which is secure purchasing tool that authorizes payments instantley over your wireless device from your bank.
People can use micro payments which are electronic payment purchases under ten dollars. If you need to pay for parking you would just use your wireless device such as your I phone and pay the hotel for parking. People who download music, ringtones and games are leaning towards micro payments because nobody wants to pay transaction fees.
Today people can pay their bills directly from their cellphones called wireless bill payments. This securely stores your credit care number in your phone to make payments. So if you forget to pay your bills you can simply use your wireless device anywhere in the world.

Mobile commerce B2C applications lean towards retail shopping, advertising and customer service. A lot of vendors let customers shop from their I Phones or use auctions sites. A really neat feature that wireless devices provides is location-based services. It help with information to a certain location. A person can request where the closest tax office is or the closets spa or doctors are. It can warn you about accidents, traffic jams. The last m-commerce I will be talking about is location-based advertising is when marketers send adverstisng messages to wireless devides about mall, stoes and restaurants.

In today's business world technology has change incredible the way business and customers buy and sell good and services over the internet and by using their wireless devices anywhere in the world.

Today people can access their Facebook which is a social network site anywhere in the world at anytime using their wireless device. There are many issue that Facebook faces such as security problems. There was a study that was found that a huge number of people are willing to add a complete stranger as a friend on their Facebook. This tells us that people are not cautious of someone stealing their identity from them. There was a research company that study the dangers of irresponsible use of social networking sites. In their study they created a fake profile name Freddi Staur which was created from the word fraudsters. They posted a picture of a plastic frog and revealed little personal information. Out of 200 random friend request there was 87 that accepted with 82 of them providing personal information. This is very alarming how trustful people can be. they do not realize that criminals are out there ready to make their life a living nightmare. People need to think about everything they put on line and think about how their information could cause them harem in the future. There are many thefts out there waiting for an easy target to get what they want.

Imagine you receive a Facebook message from one of your friends asking for help. They are in a foreign country and they need you to wire them some money because they lost their wallet and air tickets. Oh my God, a hacker has broken into your online Facebook friends account and he is using their profile to lure you into transferring money to them. People believe that the messages are directly received from people they know from social networks. You cannot believe everything you read. From reading this blog you should think twice if your friend or family member is in trouble with some other prove to back their Facebook response. There is a possibility that has to cross your mind that their account password has been stolen and have lost control of their Facebook profiles especially from a wireless device. To solve these problems call them or email them , use googleplex or other social networking sites to confirm that what they are telling you is truly from them and not from a criminal/fraudsters ready to invade your privacy.

Other issues pertaining to Facebook or other social networking sites is employers are now searching websites for information about you. Some employers collect all this information, present it to you but will later destroy and personal information that is private under your commend. I would not want that to happen to me but I would not say anything on my Facebook that I would not want the whole world to know. I guess people should have the same mind set so they would never have to worry about privacy issues and fraud in the first place.

Wireless technologies

My name is Valerie Rivard and I am a student at the University of Windsor. My career path I have chosen is to be an accountant(CMA, CGA).First I will be graduating from the University of Windsor next year in the accounting track program, yeah! I like to read novels especially the twilight saga. You cannot put the book down it is that good. I also enjoy playing the piano but there is not enough time to practice when you have to chase around a toddler.
I have chosen to write about the topic Wireless Technologies because it is amazing and interesting on how far technology has powerfully grown within the reach of the palm of your hand.

In today's business world wireless technology is an essentially part of daily business. These small wireless devices are small, compact and have sufficient computing power that make them productive in the sense that you can access your business emails from home or during the commute to work. While owning a mobile device, work is becoming more and more flexible. With WIFI networks (communicate wireless with the internet) you can browse the web, check for emails and they have recently introduced voice control that allows you to call anyone with the sound of your voice everywhere you go. Today there are many examples of these new wireless devices such as The Blackberry 8900 smartphone with many features such as WIFI network to shop on line, stream videos & music, listen to music with a media player, camera phone 3.2 megapixels with video recording and of course making important phone calls. The second example would be the apple I phone3G touch tone widescreen with features like internet, video, music, camera phone, and voice control for calling out or simply playing your favourite song. Other examples would be the Treo 750, the Motorola v3t, the Helio Ocean and the Sony Mylo. In the accounting world you can email your clients anywhere on the planet giving them accounting advice. One problem with easy access to your email is you keep on wanting to check it all the time. This consumes your time and makes you additive to this wireless device. People refer to the addictive nature of these device by calling the blackberry a Crackberry. Some of the people who own these devices are completely glued to their screens while being oblivious to their surroundings. Another good point is you can research and find different standards of accounting to help out your clients further in their businesses. If your lost and need to find your way to clients to prepare an audit there is a built in GPS(you will never get lost). These phones help you organize your life and help to assist you to improve your career because of the knowledge it offers. There are many positive aspects of these phones that I may consider owning in the future.

The negative aspects of wireless technologies is equipment theft. This devices are becoming smaller with more power and with increase storage. This makes it easier for thieves to steal and use these computing devices and have access to take valuable and personal information. They can steal your money, no where you live or completely still your identity. People have a tough time recovering from identity theft because it is costly, time consuming, and very difficult. Victims have bad credit and cannot even obtain a job because of unpaid bills and negative information.
In a business employees who own wireless devices such as an Ipod use a technique called pod slurping. They plug an Ipod (other wireless devices) into a usb port on a computer and download huge amounts of information very easy and quickly. An Ipod contains 60 gigabytes of storage and can download the hard drive in minutes. These are a few things to research about before thinking of owning any of these wireless devices.

In conclusion these wireless technology devices gives as the pleasure to listen to our favourite music, keep in touch with friends (facebook), and access emails for work, find our way in life, be organize, store picture keepsakes, express your opinions (twitter, blogs), download videos, music, explore the knowledge of the internet. These amazing small devices have changed the way we think, act, feel and interact with the world around us.(see attached links related to Wireless technologies).
